Found this recording from a session I threw together a couple of years ago. I’d been listening to a lot of John Hartford and wondered how he might’ve used horns on his music if he’d had the chance. https://soundcloud.com/bensomers/squirrell-hunters-mix3
Really happy to have been asked to be part of this project. Darwish is a very inspired musician and composer from London, he’s also alright to hang out with! I had a great time composing, arranging and playing all the sax parts on his album ‘Reclamation’ . We’re doing some gigs around the UK over the next few months. You can find details on my gigs page or you visit his FB.
We had a great gig on The Folkestone Harbour Arm last Saturday. It’s a beautiful setting and there will be gigs and concerts there throughout the summer. Here’s a clip from our gig.
Very excited about the release of the new album, the whole experience of making it at Tonehouse in Paris with Jean-Etienne Loose was wonderful. The guys in the string band Marius, Evan and Dorian truly made the music come alive and I’m newly inspired every time I listen to it. Along with the guys there are some guest appearances from the old man Steve Somers and Burning Salt‘s Hannah Hull. The vocals were produced and recorded by my good friend and bandmate Bobby Williams and then the final magic was woven by Josh Clark at Get Real Audio. I’m looking at releasing in a couple of months and am currently programming our September tour. We’ll be at The Didmarton Festival September 2nd, The Bank in Eye on the 5th and Norwich Sept 6th. Details on my gigs page and more dates to follow.
Heres the title track from the album ‘Poor Stuart’ taken from our tour of Europe last Summer.
Summer is shaping up to be very exciting so far. We’ll be heading to The Black Mountains to play at Fire In The Mountain on June 2nd then on the way back down south we’ll be playing for the lovely people at The Hermon Chapel in Oswestry. On June 15th we’ll be heading over to Trondheim in Norway to play two gigs. June 15th at Antikvariatet, we’ll then head 80 or so Kilometres north to play the Slabberaset festival in Steinkjer on June 16th.
Its looking like we’ll be playing a beautiful little festival in Steinkjer , North of Trondheim in Norway this June and it got me thinking about the music of Annlaug Borsheim. Here’s a medley of two tunes which will feature on the new studio album. Annlaug, from Norway wrote the second tune ‘Fasiken’, Fasiken is actually a Swedish word for……well you look it up. We filmed this video at La Sonora De Gracia in Barcelona during a tour last year.
